Based on the minimum requirements of the National Fire Protection Association, 1021 Standard for Professional Qualifications, 2003 Edition


Requirements:

  • Candidates shall be at least 18 years of age.
  • Candidates shall be certified as a Fire Officer I and Fire Instructor I from the Louisiana Firefighter Certification Program or another agency accredited by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC).
  • The Fire Officer I examination includes portions of seven (7) fire related subjects requiring the successful completion of cognitive (written) skill and manipulative (practical) skills. Written examinations require 70% or greater overall average and manipulative skill examinations are averaged together with the student receiving the grade of "P" for passing if successful.
