on the minimum requirements of
the National Fire Protection
Association, NFPA 1041 Standard
for Fire Service Instructor Professional Qualifications, 2002
Edition.
Requirements:

Candidates
shall
be at least 18 years of age.

For certification at Level II, The
Fire Service Instructor I shall meet the job performance requirements
defined in NFPA 1041, 2002 Edition, Chapter 5, Sections 5.2 through
5.5, requiring the successful completion of cognitive (written) skill
and manipulative (practical) skills. Written examinations require 70%
or greater overall average and manipulative skill examinations are
averaged together with the student receiving the grade of "P" for
passing if successful.

Instructor Classification –
Instructor II: A fire service instructor who, in addition to meeting
Instructor I qualifications, has demonstrated the knowledge and ability
to develop individual lesson plans for a specific topic including
learning objectives, instructional aids, and evaluation instruments;
schedule training sessions based on the overall training plan of the
authority having jurisdiction (AHJ); and, supervise and coordinate the
activities of other instructors.
