Based
on the minimum requirements of
the NFPA 1001 Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications,
2002 Edition.
Requirements:

Candidates
Shall
be at least 18 years of age
-
Candidates
Shall
meet the physical fitness requirements outlined in the safety standards
of NFPA 1001 and NFPA 1500
-
For certification at Level I, the
fire fighter candidate Shall
meet the general knowledge requirements in 5.1.1.1 of the NFPA 1001
Standard, the general skill requirements in 5.1.1.2 of the same
Standard, and the job performance requirements defined in Sections 5.2
through 5.5 of the same Standard as well as the requirements defined in
Chapter 4, Competencies for the First Responder at the Awareness Level,
NFPA 472, Standard for
Professional Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials Incidents,
certified at the Awareness Level by the Louisiana Firefighter and
Emergency Responder Certification Program

The candidate must submit
documentation establishing minimum emergency medical care performance
capabilities for entry level personnel to include infection control,
CPR, bleeding control, and shock management as required in NFPA 1001, 4.3
Emergency Medical Care.

The Fire Fighter I examination
includes portions of four (4) fire related subjects (Sections 5.1, 5.2,
5.3, and 5.5 of the NFPA 1001 Standard) requiring the successful
completion of cognitive (written) skills and manipulative (practical)
skills. Written examinations require 70% or greater overall average and
manipulative skills are averaged together, with the student required to
receive the grade of “P” for passing.
